The GME 406MHz Emergency Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) with GPS is compact and lightweight. It weighs only 261g and has clear and visible activation instructions on the unit.
Hirers must provide details of their trip and a minimum of (2) emergency contacts which will be entered on the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) website prior to hire.
*Personal Locator Beacons (PLB's) are not a substitute for being well prepared for your trip. A beacon should only be used if someone's life is in grave and imminent danger and you have no other means of communication.
How will someone find me if I activate the PLB with GPS? This PLB comes with a built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) to direct search and rescue to within 100m of your location. At the time of hiring, we will ask for your trip details and a minimum of 2 contact people who know about your trip. We then enter this information into the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) online database and provide you with visible confirmation. If the PLB is activated, Emergency Services will check the database and contact your contact persons to confirm your location and will then initiate a search and rescue.
